Dr. Olga Avsajanishvili | Dark Sector Research | Best Researcher Award

Researcher at Evgeni Kharadze Georgian National Astrophysical Observatory, Georgia

Olga Avsajanishvili is a distinguished astrophysicist and researcher, currently working at the Evgeni Kharadze Georgian National Astrophysical Observatory. She earned her Ph.D. in Physics from Ilia State University, Georgia, focusing on theoretical and observational cosmology. Her research covers cosmological models of dark energy, modified gravity, and large-scale structure formation, contributing valuable insights to the field.

Profile:

Education:

Olga Avsajanishvili completed her M.S. in Astronomy with honors from Odesa Mechnikov National University, Ukraine, in 1990. Her M.S. project, titled “Ephemeris and dynamics of Orionids and ɳ-Aquarids meteor showers,” was supervised by Prof. Yefim Kramer and Prof. Gurana Mikirtumova. Later, she pursued a Ph.D. in Physics at Ilia State University, Georgia, between 2012 and 2019, under the supervision of Prof. Tina Kahniashvili and Prof. Lado Samushia. Her thesis, “Cosmological Models of Dark Energy: Theory and Observations,” earned her a Ph.D. with honors. Throughout her academic journey, she developed a strong foundation in cosmology, theoretical physics, and astronomical research, specializing in cosmological dark energy models and modified gravity theories. Her education, grounded in both theoretical and practical aspects of physics and astronomy, has significantly contributed to her research endeavors.

Professional experience:

Olga Avsajanishvili’s research career began in November 1990 at the Evgeni Kharadze Georgian National Astrophysical Observatory, where she worked as an Assistant Researcher until 2012. She then pursued her Ph.D. at Ilia State University, Georgia, from 2012 to 2019, focusing on dark energy and cosmological models. In 2019, Olga returned to the Evgeni Kharadze Observatory as a Researcher, where she continues her work on theoretical cosmology and astrophysical phenomena. Her experience includes collaborations with renowned institutions, such as Kansas State University and Carnegie Mellon University, where she worked alongside experts in astrophysics and cosmology. Olga has participated in various international research projects and secured numerous grants that support her cutting-edge research in cosmology, particularly in dark energy models and the large-scale structure of the universe.

Research focus:

Olga Avsajanishvili’s research focuses on the theoretical and observational aspects of cosmology, particularly cosmological models beyond the standard scenario. Her work is centered on dark energy-dark matter interaction models, quintessential inflation, and modified gravity theories such as f(R) models. She investigates the origin of neutrino mass, large-scale structure formation, and the implications of Bayesian statistics and Monte Carlo Markov Chain analysis on cosmological data. Olga is also involved in research on the observational constraints of cosmological scalar field models (ϕCDM) and their role in the evolution of the universe.

Award and Honors:

Olga Avsajanishvili has been recognized for her contributions to astrophysics and cosmology with several prestigious awards and honors. Notably, she was the recipient of the CRDF Global Georgia Women’s Research Fellowship from 2014 to 2015, highlighting her role as a leading female scientist in the field. During her Ph.D. studies at Ilia State University, she was awarded the Ph.D. Program Fellowship, which supported her groundbreaking research on dark energy models. Throughout her career, she has also secured several grants, including those from the Georgian Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation and the Georgian Research & Development Foundation.
